During the Coroner Inquest held in Ikorodu, Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of the late singer IleriOluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, delivered a poignant testimony that shed light on the circumstances surrounding his untimely death. The inquest aimed to uncover the truth regarding the events leading to Mohbad’s passing.
Omowunmi shared her account of the situation, revealing that her late husband had faced challenges before his demise, including past experiences of bullying, psychological trauma, and an encounter with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
According to her testimony, Mohbad passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. On the day of his death, he had taken a shower but was feeling unwell. He requested that the air conditioner in his room be turned on, but when it didn’t function, he was moved to their son’s room.
Omowunmi, who was in the kitchen at the time, recounted seeing a nurse administering an injection to Mohbad. She heard him request the removal of the syringe, prompting them to rush him to the hospital.
While en route to the hospital, Mohbad was seated in the back seat of the car, and the driver noted that his hands were growing cold. Omowunmi called a motorcycle to transport Mohbad’s friend, OG, who accompanied him to the hospital. She took another motorcycle and rushed to the hospital.
Upon their arrival at the hospital, doctors, nurses, Mohbad’s brother, and a Disc Jockey were present in the room. Omowunmi was outside when they broke the news of Mohbad’s passing to her. She initially found it hard to believe, as she had spoken to him just 20 minutes before, and he had mentioned plans to take their five-month-old son for a photoshoot after his injection.
In addition, Omowunmi shared details of the events that occurred a day before Mohbad’s passing. They had attended a show on September 11, 2023, where Mohbad performed. He expressed fatigue and the desire to return home. Despite their eagerness to leave, they were asked to wait for other artists to complete their performances, leading to an argument within the car.
A dispute erupted between Mohbad and his younger brother during the car ride, and it escalated into a physical altercation when his friend, Owodunni Ibrahim, known as Prime Boy, intervened. Omowunmi was compelled to seek assistance from Mohbad’s workers to separate them.
The widow also highlighted that Mohbad had received medical treatment from a nurse for two years, with injections administered in his shoulder. She mentioned that an encounter with the NDLEA on February 22, 2022, during which Mohbad was struck on the head with a gun, had left him fearful of returning to the hospital. Omowunmi revealed that she, too, had been physically assaulted by the NDLEA when questioning their harassment of her husband.
After the NDLEA incident, Mohbad exhibited symptoms of paranoia and memory loss, including difficulty remembering his phone password. He also faced allegations of mental illness and struggled with depression. Omowunmi explained that she was unaware of his burial location or the mortuary following his passing.
She disclosed that they had made plans to send their son to Canada, as Mohbad had secured a visa for the child. Mohbad had expressed the desire for their son, Liam, to celebrate his first birthday in Canada. Due to financial constraints, the decision was made for Liam to travel independently, to which Omowunmi had agreed.
Amid threats that Omowunmi reported receiving, she expressed the need to wear a face mask in response to these warnings. She added that Mohbad’s intent was to fly their son to Canada to fulfill his wish of having Liam’s first birthday celebrated in the country, as he had always hoped.
