At least two persons have been confirmed dead following a two-storey building collapse in the Garki District of Abuja.
Recall, THE WITNESS had reported that building, a plaza, collapsed at Lagos Street, Garki Village, Garki, Abuja, on Wednesday night, during heavy downpour.
Dr Abbas Idris, Director General of FCT Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, said 37 persons had so far been rescued at the scene of the collapsed structure.
But, Nkechi Isa, the Head of Public Affairs of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), while giving update on the development to reporters Thursday afternoon said two persons have died.
She said the 37 persons rescued from the building are currently receiving treatment while bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited in a morgue.
Rescue operations are still ongoing as at press time.
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has led a delegation to have an on-the-spot assessment of the building.
