12 people have been feared dead and seven others rescued alive as a boat capsized at a river, Kogi Kungra Kamfani, in Arikiya, Lafia LGA of Nasarawa state on Wednesday.
This was disclosed by the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Abdullahi, during an emergency sitting in Lafia on Thursday.
The speaker commiserated with the state government and the Lafia Local Government Area over the incident.
While condoling with the bereaved families over the death of their loved ones, he said, “It is very sad that we lost 12 people, comprising men and women in a boat mishap in Arikiya, Lafia LGA.
“19 people were on board, 12 died and seven were rescued. Lafia LGA and our dear state have been thrown into mourning over this sad incident.”
The state assembly urged the families, Lafia LGA and the state government to bear the irreparable loss.
“On behalf of myself, Honourable members and the staff of the assembly, we condole with the bereaved families, Lafia LGA and the state government over their deaths in the boat mishap
“We pray for the repose of their souls and that God should forgive their shortcomings and grant them eternal rest,” he added.
