A 55-year-old man, Hassan Wasiu, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly sexually assaulting his neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter. The incident occurred on August 26, 2024, at Wasiu's apartment on Falowo Street, Makun, in the Sagamu area of the state.
According to the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the survivor’s grandfather, Bimbo Ojo, reported the incident to the Sagamu Police Division after discovering his granddaughter bleeding profusely. The survivor revealed that Wasiu lured her into his room and sexually assaulted her.
Despite Wasiu’s denial of the allegations, he has been detained and the investigation is ongoing. The case will soon be transferred to the state criminal investigation department.
The police have assured that justice will be served, and the suspect will face the full weight of the law if found guilty. The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with calls for increased protection for children and stricter punishment for perpetrators of sexual assault.
