In response to the directive from the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has suspended its earlier announced increase in navigational charges.

This decision follows the minister’s recognition of the current economic challenges faced by Nigerians.

NAMA had announced an increase in the navigational charges for airlines, which have been in place since 2008.

The Managing Director, Engr. Ahmed Farouk unveiled the 100 per cent increase, which would commence in September raising fear further increase in air fares for passengers.

Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of NAMA, Abdullahi Musa in a statement announcing the suspension of the proposed increase said the minister emphasised the need for further consultation before implementing any changes, highlighting the importance of being sensitive to the plight of Nigerians amidst these economic challenges.

“The directive from the honourable minister and the subsequent suspension of the planned increase underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of Nigerian citizens and stakeholders in the aviation sector.
