Profile Preview

Full Name: Uba Maigari Ahmadu

Date of Birth: 13th August, 1943

State of Origin:  Taraba State.

Religion: Islam.

Biography

Donga’s illustrious son, H.E. Barr. Uba Maigari Ahmadu, is a testament to the remarkable fusion of law, business acumen, and political fervor.

He hails from the serene environs of Wukari local government in Taraba state, Maigari’s story unfolded like a tapestry woven with resilience, determination, consistency, dedication, and hard work.

Educational Background of Maigari Ahmadu

Maigari’s educational odyssey commenced in 1973, when he was enrolled in the esteemed township Primary School in Jos to seek knowledge. He was later transferred to Dauda Kwancha Primary School in Donga when his late father finally bowed out of service as a police inspector, and he completed his foundational education in 1978.

Evidencing his pursuit of excellence, he furthered his educational journey at the then Government Secondary School (GSS) in Donga from 1978 to 1980.Maigari was later transferred to Mbiya Secondary School in Takum LGA as a result of the conversion of the school to be purely science, and he obtained his SSCE certificate in 1983.

In continuation of his academic pursuit, Maigari sought to hone his intellect at the University of Maiduguri, where he undertook a remedial programme in 1983–1984.

His unwavering dedication and hard work led to his admission to the university in 1984, where he embarked on the study of Common law and graduated with second-class honours in 1988.

Maigari immediately went to Victoria Ireland, a Nigerian Law school, from 1988–1989, and was finally called to the Bar in 1990.

Maigari’s insatiable thirst for knowledge was not confined to academia alone. He undertook the rigorous National Youth Service Corps in Enugu State, the then-former Anambra State, and was posted in the department of intelligence and interrogation in the Nigeria Police Force.

These experiences laid the foundation for his multidisciplinary approach, which eventually prepared him for the multifaceted roles that lay ahead.

Professional career of Maigari Ahmadu

The chapters of his life unfurled in fascinating directions as he ventured into the realms of business and politics. His dexterity in civil engineering soon became apparent, reflecting his innate entrepreneurial spirit. A foray into the political arena was ensured, and while his bid for the chairmanship of Donga local government was not victorious, it was a testament to his dedication to community development and, of course, service to humanity, a character that was all believed to have been inherited from his late father.

The years 2001–2002 marked a pivotal moment in Maigari’s political trajectory, as he was appointed as the pioneer Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

These periods underscored his commitment to governance and his innate ability to effect change. As luck smiled at him, the then deputy governor, late Danboyi, chose to run for senate, which resulted in someone being picked to replace him in the 2003 elections, and Maigari was picked as a running mate for then governor Nyame. Her service was for the period between 2003 and 2004.

Maigari’s quest for public service continued, and he contested for senator in his senatorial zone under the then ACN but still couldn’t secure the mandate of the people of his zone.

As he continued to strive both as a politician and a businessman, Maigari was later appointed as a board member of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) from 2012–2015 by then President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

In the year 2015, Maigari pinch-tattered with his present party, and around 2017–2019, he led a pressure group within the party called the Integrity Group with the aim of fostering peaceful coexistence within the party.

In all his years in the party, Maigari had never rejected the interests of the party, ranging from governorship candidates down to state assembly candidates. Is again in the records that he had never protested against any appointment given to anyone during the period of the last administration, and he had been in the party throughout without any appointment because he believed everything happens at God’s designated time.

Today, as history will have it, he was nominated as minister by PBAT from Taraba and was successfully screened while waiting for confirmation by the Senate

History will be kind to our beloved president, as he happily agreed and gave Taraba two ministers to represent us at the federal executive council meeting in his government. With such an indelible act of kindness shown to us, we prayed that Mr. President would never regret giving us this rare opportunity.
