The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has terminated the appointment of five of its personnel over allegations bordering on corruption.
It said two others who also appeared before a disciplinary panel were repremanded for not being at their duty post.
This is coming barely two weeks after 11 others were arraigned before a disciplinary panel over same allegation.
A statement by the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, on Monday revealed that the indicted five officials were served with letters terminating their service from the state civil service.
Taofiq said the cases against 14 others were still undergoing administrative review by the LASTMA Management team.
He noted that letters terminating the appointment of the five officers were served on them on Friday, December 8, 2023.
He said every recommendation made by the Personnel Management Board on the seven indicted LASTMA officials during a meeting on Tuesday, August 19, 2023 was ratified by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission.
“While Five Lastma Officials indicted for corruptions received letter of Termination of appointment’, two others were ‘reprimand’ for absence from duty posts without leave,” he explained.
Taofiq further stated that the Acting General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bakara Oki Olalekan, urged staff of the Authority to be up and doing, insisting that disciplinary action would be taken against anyone found culpable in line with the extant rules as guided by the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
He said the Acting General Manager maintained that the agency would only get better if and when members of the public shared their experiences with management adding that such experiences should also include positive ones.
He implored road users to always comply with the State Traffic Law in order not to run foul of the law, which, according to him, will attract penalties as stated in the law.
“This is necessary for all of us to promote a Greater Lagos for the benefit of all and for the realization of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s objectives in the First Pillar of the THEMES Plus Development Agenda (Traffic Management and Transportation)”.
“We wish informing well-meaning and concerned Lagos residents and the motoring public that we have various windows through which complaints can be channelled for prompt action – 08100565860, 08129928515, 08129928503, (08129928597 WhatsApp only) & Provost on 08129928490,” he said.
He assured the public that such complaints shall be investigated dispassionately with despatch.
While enjoining every motoring public to abide by the Lagos State Transportation Sector Reform Law 2018, Mr Bakare Oki disclosed that cases against remaining 14 indicted Lastma Officials are undergoing additional administrative review.
