Over 20 medical and dental students, along with a House Officer, have been kidnapped by gunmen in Benue State.

The students, from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were on their way to attend the annual convention of the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students, FECAMDS, in Enugu.

The kidnapping occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the Otukpo area of Benue State, where the students were ambushed by the gunmen while travelling together.

The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, SP Catherine Anene, who confirmed the incident, said an investigation had been launched into the abduction.

“Yes, the report of kidnapping is true. The report was received around 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and an investigation is ongoing.”
