Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has extended his heartfelt thanks to President Bola Tinubu for his “fatherly intervention” in a recent political crisis that shook the state.

Fubara’s gratitude is conveyed through a statement he signed and shared with the press in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

In his statement, Governor Fubara acknowledged the positive impact of President Tinubu’s mediation, which paved the way for open communication channels and contributed to the timely resolution of the ongoing political turmoil between his godfather and Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

He also expressed his appreciation for the involvement of elder statesmen who played a role in restoring peace and stability to the state.

Fubara goes on to describe the circumstances that led to his visit to the Assembly complex, where he assessed the extent of damage and initiated immediate measures to safeguard lives and property within the complex.

He recounts the alarming reports of a fire incident in the assembly chamber, which was promptly extinguished by the fire service, followed by security agencies taking control of the situation.

The Governor emphasized however, that his actions were centred on the objective of reestablishing peace and stability in the state, underlining his commitment to the advancement, progress, security, and well-being of the people.

He highlighted the collective responsibility shared with the immediate past governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to leverage their positions and influence for the betterment of the state.

The embattled Governor assured the people of Rivers that he remains dedicated to achieving lasting peace and tranquility in the state, whilst pledging to work in concert with the initiatives led by President Bola Tinubu and other well-intentioned Nigerians to achieve a permanent resolution to the crisis.

Fubara concluded by offering his sincere apology for any anxieties caused in recent days and expresses gratitude for the continued support, love, and prayers of the people.
