The Senate on Thursday moved to establish the Local Government Independent Electoral Commission (LGIEC) to give boost to smooth conduct of elections across the country.
The Bill sponsored by Senator Musa Sani (Niger East) was introduced on the floor of the Red Chamber by the Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central).
Titled Local Government Independent Electoral Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2024, the legislation passed first reading on Thursday, during plenary.
