Usman Ododo, the gubernatorial candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State, has passionately appealed to security agencies for the immediate release of detained APC leaders from Kogi East.
Ododo stressed that the arrested APC members have unblemished reputations and no involvement in criminal activities or thuggery. He voiced deep concern over the raids on their homes and the subsequent damage to their properties, emphasizing the gravity of the situation for the party.
The incident in question transpired when a group of alleged political agitators, reportedly connected to the APC, launched an attack on the residence of Sheikh Ibrahim Jibrin, the Director-General of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Campaign Council, located in Anyigba. Tragically, this attack led to the tragic loss of a police officer’s life and claimed the lives of four other individuals.
In response to this violent episode, security agencies acted promptly by arresting several leaders of the ruling party suspected to be connected to the incident.
In a video shared by Arise TV, Usman Ododo, the APC gubernatorial candidate, categorically denied his party’s involvement in the attack and insisted that the perpetrators were acting independently, not representing the APC.
Ododo has called on security agencies to swiftly release the detained APC chieftains, underscoring his commitment to not sheltering criminals or thugs within the party.
He stated, “They have picked almost seven of my [party] members, even from my community. I allowed them to do their work, and I had no plans to interfere in their investigation. I believe that when they are done with the investigation and none of them is found guilty, they will be released.”
