Biography:
Abubakar Momoh, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress is a civil engineer by training. He currently serves as the Minister of Niger Delta Development as appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He was a two-time member of the House of Representatives representing Etsako Federal Constituency of Edo State.
He was a founding member of Action Congress (AC) that is one of the political parties that formed APC. He temporarily left the APC following the demand by many of his supporters, and was the PDP Edo North senatorial candidate in the 2019 elections.
He, however, returned to the APC, where has remained and mobilised thousands of his supporters spread across Edo State to ensure that the party record victory in various elections.
Abubakar Momoh Family:
Momoh, who hails from Uduoye family of Imiegba, North Ibie, Etsako East LGA of Edo State, is married to Mrs Jummai and are both blessed with children.
Abubakar Momoh’s Career:
Momoh rose in the political ladder from an elected councillor to a local government chairman and from local government chairman to Edo State House of Assembly’s member between 1999 and 2003 where he distinguished himself as one the most performing lawmakers in the state.
Momoh was elected as a member of House of Representatives for Etsako Federal Constituency from 2003 and 2007, and one of the political gladiators that championed the governorship election of Adams Oshiomhole under the then Action Congress in 2007.
Engr Momoh was also elected for the second time into the House of Representatives between 2011 and 2015, and he was reputed to have executed projects across all the wards in the three local government areas that make up Etsako Federal Constituency. He is currently one of President Tinubu’s ministerial nominees, in July 2023.
He narrowly lost the Edo North Senatorial election in 2015. Momoh dumped APC for PDP in 2019 and flew the party’s ticket in the Edo North senatorial election but narrowly lost in the poll in the zone which also boasts of Oshiomhole.
Thereafter Momoh returned to the APC and joined forces with other chieftains of the party to work tirelessly in ensuring the success of the party in the 2023 general elections, with APC recording landslide victory in Edo North. He also served as a member of the APC Presidential Council.
