Biography

Abubakar Audu is a Nigerian investment banker and politician. Who is the current minister of Steel Development since August 2023.

Shuaibu Audu is the son of former Kogi State Governor, Abubakar Audu. He is married with children.

Before his appointment as minister, he was a gubernatorial aspirant in Kogi State. Following the submission and subsequent screening of ministerial nominees by the senate, Audu was appointed minister of Steel Development on 16 August 2023.

Educational Career of Abubakar Audu

Audu was born to Abubakar Audu in Kogi. He attended the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business economics in 2001. He earned a master’s degree from Henley Business School, University of Reading. Audu obtained a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Oxford in 2013 where he was a member of St Hugh’s College.

Professional career of Abubakar Audu

Shuaibu Audu worked in Lagos as an investment analyst with Stanbic IBTC. He also served as an executive director of the bank’s assets management subsidiary. Audu served as chief executive officer of the Stanbic IBTC Investment for 10 years until his foray into politics.

Audu is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) where he contested as an aspirant in the governorship primaries of the Kogi State chapter of the party.

In February 2023, he announced his intention to contest in the November 2023 Kogi State gubernatorial election under the All Progressives Congress (APC). He lost the gubernatorial ticket to Ahmed Ododo at the primary elections in April 2023.

In August 2023, he was made Minister of Steel Development by President Bola Tinubu.
